Originally released in 1964.
Art Farmer (1928–99) first visited Sweden in 1953, as a member of the Lionel Hampton Big Band, in a trumpet section where he shared solo duties with the legendary Clifford Brown (1930–56). Farmer and Brown also made a small group session while in Stockholm. Later on, Farmer settled for lengths of time in Europe, where he was a very much in demand as a soloist and studio musician. (He was famous as a terrific sight-reader of music). He also toured with Gerry Mulligan (1927–96) and others.
One of the highlights of the jazz year of 1964 was the visit to Sweden by Farmer’s quartet with guitarist Jim Hall. This album presents their studio recordings made in Stockholm, many with selected Swedish tunes.
The companion volume (DRCD 466) has live recordings from that year, all previously unissued.
